What is Quartzite?
Quartzite is a natural stone that forms when sandstone is subjected to high heat and pressure over time—usually deep within the earth. Here’s what you need to know about it:
-
Composition: Mostly quartz (a very hard mineral), fused together so tightly that it becomes extremely dense and durable.
-
Appearance: It looks similar to marble but with more sparkle and crystal-like shimmer. It comes in whites, grays, beiges, and sometimes bold colors depending on mineral content.
-
Uses: Popular for countertops, flooring, and wall cladding. It’s a favorite in kitchens and bathrooms because it’s harder than granite and very scratch-resistant.
-
Care: Doesn’t etch like marble, but still needs sealing to prevent stains.

-
Type: Natural stone
-
Look: Often resembles marble with soft veining and sparkle
-
Durability: Extremely hard and scratch-resistant (harder than granite)
-
Heat Resistance: Excellent
-
Maintenance: Needs sealing to prevent staining
-
Etching: Doesn’t etch like marble, but still slightly porous
Quartzite (from German: Quarzit):
A hard, non-foliated metamorphic rock which was originally pure quartz sandstone. Sandstone is converted into quartzite through heating and pressure usually related to tectonic compression within orogenic belts.
